I D Loader Ltd is a 3rd generation family business involved with civil engineering.
The business was started in Wanganui by I D Loader (snr) in 1954 and was predominantly based around bulldozer work for the local district. I D Loader Ltd was formed as a company in 1963 and, other than a few years working from a large back yard at home, has been based at 172 Ridgway Street (Cnr of Hatrick and Ridgway) in Wanganui. The company ownership comprises of 4 shareholders who are also the company directors. The late Ian (snr)’s sons – Ian (jnr) and Allan along with Allan Chapman (managing director) are the 2nd generation working within the company with Perry, Ian’s third son, working for himself in Wellington. The 3rd generation of Ian (jnr)’s sons Hayden and Matthew, and Allan’s son Justin are carrying on the tradition.
Historically our major clients have been the Wanganui District Council and NZTA although of late we have had consistent work in the local forests building and maintaining forest roads as well as running a drainage crew in Christchurch carrying out SCIRT work. Most of our works are undertaken within the Wanganui region including Ohakune, Waiouru and Taihape and we also work in various areas around the North Island. While drainage and roading is core to what we do we are also involved in water reticulation, building site works, subdivision development, aggregate supply, machinery transport, forestry roading and machine hire.
We employ 60 staff at present who are all highly skilled in their various jobs. We have a good mix of young talent and those that have several years of experience. We are very proud of our retention rate with a number of staff having been here for 20 years and some over 30.
